The year after birth remains a risky time, and most maternal deaths occur in the post-partum period. It is important that women with chronic medical conditions or new medical conditions that arise in pregnancy have clear plans for their ongoing care, and we aim to give specific advice for each woman, tailored to her needs.
We know that people who develop conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes in pregnancy are more likely to have these conditions later in life, so it is important that women are aware of this and have appropriate follow-up in place.
